L’Odeur de la papaye verte - 1993 by Tran Anh Hung
Omg first of all about the vibe of this movie it's soo tranquil and dreamy and vintage. The scent of Green Papaya has a really simple plot and not very clear if you only watch it one time, mostly symbolize the tranquility and beauty of Vietnamese nature and feminine soul.
Pearl - 2022 by Ti West
This horror movie makes me feel so terrified. No ghosts but Pearl scares me of how selfish she is. She never feels satisfied by what she has, I mean she is miserable too as she wanted to become a singer so bad but her family is the biggest obstacle.
"Where does all this ungratefulness stem from? How is it that you find our lives so beneath you? You always had a roof over your head, food in your belly. Do you not think that it came at great sacrifice for your father and I? Or do you think we are beneath you too?"
This movie has really detailed the decay of a person's dignity when immersed in self-pity and jealousy, but it takes a toll on my soul ( I don't really like those scenes when Pearl kills her cousin by a rake)
12 Angry Men - 1957 by Sidney Lumet
This movie doesn't have flashy setting but it shows us a lot of mesages. 12 jurors are named after number 1 to 12. The room symbolizes a small society. The plot is about 12 Men vote to convict a boy guilty or not guilty. Throughout the film, Juror 8 calmly questions the reliability of the witnesses, the evidence, and the other jurors’ personal biases. One by one, the jurors change their minds as they begin to see that there is reasonable doubt. At the end of the movie all twelve jurors vote “not guilty,” realizing that justice requires careful thought, fairness, and empathy.
